Welcome to pedaling west, my online cycling journal.! This Web site chronicles a solo 4,607-mile cross-country bicycling tour that I went on in the summer of 2001. I rode parts of the Adventure Cycling Association's Trans-Am, Great Parks, and Northern Tier routes. Check them out; chances are they have some maps of an area near you (if North America is near you).
I wrote this journal as I traveled, updating it about once a week. I originally built this site so that my friends and family could follow my progress across the country. But then I started bumping into people and word got out, and eventually I started getting tons of hits. I also started getting tons of emails, including encouraging notes from as far away as New Zealand. In fact, some of the most avid followers of my journal were people I never met. At any rate, people seem to like the pictures and the stories, so I decided to leave the site up. I hope you enjoy it.
