I got up dreadfully early for the second day in a row -- a personal best for me -- so that I could race into Kansas and update this damn Web site. From the maps and route book, I knew that I would only have about 20 miles of steep grades, followed by 50 miles of fairly flat roads.

I saw more turtles today than usual, including these two, which were, oddly enough, moving faster than I was on this hill. Don't worry, I saved them both. Okay, I stopped for a rest and helped them. Are you happy, you sanctimonious djfkshfdlfhdlfgdhlgj

Erm, moving on...

Here's a shot from the top of the last steep hill until Colorado. I reached the summit at 10:17 am. Yes, really. You notice things like that.

My reward was 50 miles af luxuriously flat land -- I zoomed along at a pace well over 15 miles per hour! I feel the need -- the need for speed! I stopped in Golden City just long enough to eat and send a package back to Allie -- some cotton shirts and waterproof gloves that I was tired of carrying across the country.

At the very end of the day I entered Kansas, and damn if I haven't been looking forward to this. I am two days behind schedule to meet my family in Jackson, and I plan to make it up here.

Okay, gotta crash. Might double my dosage tomorrow to make up one of those days. Stayed tuned.
